And Now for a Small Town
For us, summer means lots of traveling (lots of driving for me but it includes finding plenty of things to write about!) which is just one of the things that makes it sad when it is over. Leaving for a few days unannounced and spending ridiculous amounts of money on even more ridiculous iced coffee drinks becomes unfathomable when we get back to the real world. HOWEVER, summer is not quite over and we have a few coffee shops to share before it is.
This is one we found during our travels in June across Alabama and Tennessee. Most of our posts from that trip were from cities but we saved this one for last for a reason. It is amazing what small towns can yeild!
The Find
We planned to get coffee at Rockhouse on a morning before a busy day so it was more of a game plan for caffeination than a candidate for a coffee blog. Little did I know.
Before you travel to the small towns just west of Nashville, here are some things you need to know. First of all, it is beautiful. There are wildflowers and farms everywhere and generally everyone is kind and inviting. Second, the sun rises at 5:00. So our idea of waking up later and rushing to get ready was pretty much toast. And third, there are not many coffee shops.
The only ones there, however, are good ones… and they have some of the best food!
The Coffee
We arrived at Rockhouse coffee sometime between 7 and 8 not really knowing what to expect… but because of the sunrise, we had plenty of time to kill! The shop itself is definitely one of the smaller shops I have been in, about half of the size of a Starbucks on the edge of downtown Lewisburg. There were already a few cars there which made the parking lot a bit cramped BUT to our surprise they had a drive through working in rapid fire! It was clear that this town had created their own Starbucks shop for people on their way to work.
The atmosphere inside was amazing definitely with the antiquated small town feel but in such a clean, crisp way. Everything was spotless, the pastry case was full, the people were kind, and the menu had plenty of options!
The BEST FOOD
Now to the second best part, the coffee! Mom got a black coffee and mine was a brown sugar cinnamon swirl latte. I say the second best part but it is probably my favorite coffee I drank all summer (besides Skillets’). It had a strong espresso flavor but it was smooth and spicy and sweet and everything you would imagine from the words “cinnamon swirl”. It met the requirements perfectly in my book for everything a latte should be, far surpassing Starbucks’ lattes. I can only imagine everything else on their menu is just as good… but I didn’t have to imagine too much.
A few minutes after we sat down at the bar with our coffee, the barista brought out a warm panini and the best part of the whole experience. The biggest, most beautiful and delicious cinnamon roll I have ever had. It may have been because of the drink that went perfectly with it but I think that is about as close as I have gotten to tasting manna itself. The panini was good as well but it faded in comparison with the cinnamon roll which is the best use of cinnamon I have ever experienced.
Well Worth the Drive
On the edge of downtown Louisburg, Rockhouse surprised us with some of the best coffee we had this summer. On your next trip to nashville, I would say it is well worth the stop if for nothing but the heavenly cinnamon roll and service that is just as sweet!
