A Magnificent Metro Brunch | The Daily

The Daily in Atlanta, GA

Guess who's on navigation...

What did I tell you? After a short break of exhibiting some of our usual summer favorites, we are on the road again. This trip was to see a broadway show in Atlanta (if you ever make it to this coffee shop, you can brave the traffic a bit farther and go to see the Fox! It is one of the most ornate theatres in America!) on which we brought one of my friends from out of town and the legend herself, my Mimi. Driving in a busy city like Atlanta during brunch hour can be overwhelming as you can probably imagine so it was only intuitive to pick a capable person to be on navigation. As always, I was happy to oblige.

There are two locations for The Daily in Atlanta — I found the closest one to us and plugged it in after seeing their eccentric drink options and we set off! In my defense, I think it is impossible to navigate through a city like Atlanta without going through questionable areas… the important thing is we made it.

Family Brunch Hub

Regardless of the ride there and the slightly grumpy morning after being out late to see the show the night before, we were all surprised to see we were not the only larger group there. Families (including children scribbling on The Daily coloring pages) were scattered at the various windowside tables and the atmosphere was altogether inviting. Very colorful and artistic, but inviting nonetheless. If there is a well put consonance to describe this place, it would be family friendly funk. Vintage and colorful but with a collective, welcoming style. And as far as a funky, unique hodge-lodge goes, the menu certainly matched…

Bizarre Beverages

I don’t think there was a single typical item on The Daily’s menu. Among their extravagant brunch items, there were sparkling summer specials with shots of espresso and, just as their instagram profile promised, drinks of every color and style you could imagine.

Although I have made upside down lattes at home before (thanks to the 2020 lockdown and the whipped coffee trend on social media), this was my first experience seeing an upside down latte on a coffee shop menu. However the Israeli Upside Down Latte was one of the most popular drinks on their menu so I couldn’t resist. My brilliant friend had the same idea and we ended up ordering the same drink, mine iced and hers hot. Both were equally beautiful!

Their upside down coffee was different than I expected. Most of the time when I make it at home it is sweet and super strong but this was pretty light and subtle. If you are not familiar with upside down lattes, they are composed of about 8 ounces of milk with whipped espresso poured on top (a combination of strong espresso, sweetener, and sometimes flavor) which creates an interesting fluffy texture throughout the whole drink when you mix it up. In this latte it seemed like the milk was flavored and the espresso was very light with just a tiny bit of sweetener in it. Mixed up, however, it was AMAZING! Normally these drinks are very decadent but after a morning of driving in the city, neither of us minded the light, fresh drink with some floral Israeli flavor. I honestly am still scratching my head when it comes to the significance of the name but as for the flavor, it was light and sweet and floral — altogether great, I am just not sure what makes those flavors Israeli. My only complaint… the lack of caffeine in the light whip of espresso could have been made up for…

BRUNCH

Much like their drink menu, The Daily’s brunch was a motley list of unique items and treats. There was a case of baked goods too which I took advantage of but their fresh cooked items came out in less than 10 minutes and the presentation alone was enough to tempt me to order something else. I got their Breakfast Pita which was hearty, huge, and absolutely delicious. It was packed with soft scrambled eggs, Israeli salad, tahini, and hummus, among other flavors that screamed Israeli-American fusion in the most scrumptious way possible.

The service here was phenomenal — you could tell every chef and server was happy to be there and proud of their menu items. The camaraderie at the espresso bar was encouraging. The baristas definitely had a bond and they all worked well together with tons of charisma — something you would expect to find in a small town instead of a city like Atlanta. Their vintage funky style is clean and entertaining. The Daily is overall one of our favorite brunch stops in Atlanta!
