A Necessary Stop | Hilton Head Social Bakery

Navigation Censorship. It's a thing.

If you are looking for a thrilling story, go back a few posts. After many accounts of our deep dives through neighborhoods and metropolitan jungles, finally this is a find that occurred in a perfectly normal situation. Yep. I was banned from manning navigation this time.

If you’ve been following us, you know that we take a trip to Hilton Head Island regularly, and Hilton Head social bakery happens to be one of our favorite pit stops upon arrival on the island! Nothing out of the ordinary here. Just wait for our next post though…

Starbucks (HHI's Version)

This bakery began as a harborside stop until they recently opened their second location, on the other side of a roundabout from several beach condo communities. Our first visit was last year on our way to our condo, elated that a local coffee shop had popped up out of the blue nearby. Since then, our stop there has been an absolute necessity!

The shop is about the size of a Starbucks with a drive thru and a windowside bar to match. In fact, aside from the patches of exposed brick, the stained glass chandelier, and motorcycle on the wall, it is exactly like a starbucks. Without the driftwood bar, local goods, and case of endless exotic Parisian pastries, this island find and a Starbucks are basically identical. By the look on our faces, you would have thought we had walked in to one of the most creative island bakeries we’d seen. It was totally generic though. Nothing out of the ordinary😉

Amazing Pastries

Hilton Head Social Bakery’s pastries have to be the best on the island (our apologies to our second favorite stop, the French Bakery). They are all Parisian inspired and presented with all of the meticulous attention to detail you would expect to see on a magazine cover. It turns out they have been on one, featured recently in Garden & Gun magazine for very obvious reasons. They are as delicious as they are beautiful, the perfect pairing with an island inspired coffee!

The Coffee

The only complaint I have about their coffee here is that their lattes are on the sweet side, lacking some of the espresso flavor coffee fanatics like me tend to prefer. Although faint, the flavor of their espresso is great, I just wish there was more of it. It is hard to criticize though because their baked goods are so amazing, nit picky criticisms are almost easy to forget. Drinking black coffee is the true test and this bakery more than passed!

Our # 1 Bakery

While Sweet Al’s takes the cake on best island coffee, Hilton Head Social Bakery quite literally makes the cake. And it is delicious. With plenty of Parisian flair and a fabulous atmosphere, this place is a great stop, especially for those unfamiliar to the area who want a subtle introduction to southern eastern coast life.
